Disney's Metamap
The “MetaMap” is a web-based application intended to help Disney story creators organise and structure their vision. It aims to support a number of different workflows, with the end result of helping the user craft a cohesive narrative.
This project is currently in its pilot stage and being tested with users
The Challenge
“Could there be a clever way to use software to manage and visualise the ideation of a story as it’s being developed?”
“How can we make an interface that allows us to interact with our ideas the way our mind might interact with an idea?”
My role
Sr Designer: UX strategy & product interface
Actively working with Disney Product/Production teams to build on the Prototype, increase the feature set based on customer feedback, and enable the system to live scale towards full user population and day-to-day operational use
Requirements
• Make sure we’re seeing the same movie that the creator is seeing.
• Needs to be a complement (not a replacement) to a treatment or script
• MetaMap can serve as a great brainstorming tool to start a project
• A great resource to see how a story develops over time
• Enable creators to keep working the way they’re working, with the benefits of a networked digital structure.
• Different ways a creative can map a story and different starting points in their minds
